Our story
Born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan, Chef Yanagi developed a passion for food from a young age. At the age of 18, he began his journey as a student of sushi. His culinary journey took him across the globe, from Japan to New York, Los Angeles, and Texas. After 30 years of mastering the art of sushi, Chef Yanagi met Chef Suzuki, the esteemed owner of a beloved restaurant in Long Island City, who was retiring. Chef Suzuki decided it was time to pass the torch and chose Chef Yanagi to carry on his legacy.
Chef Yanagi understood that sushi experiences were often overpriced, and he wanted to create a restaurant that offered reasonably priced sushi for everyday people. This presented a perfect opportunity for him. He had always dreamed of making authentic and beautiful sushi accessible to the community without pretentious prices, allowing everyone to enjoy sushi just like in Japan. "Sushi for the People" became his slogan.
Now, we are here in Long Island City serving Sushi and Ramen to carry on the legacy of Suzuki Shokudo with Chef Yanagi's unique touch. This includes revising the menu, adding new items, appetizers, and special chef recommendations like the A-La-Carte Sushi "Double Toro," which features aged tuna toro topped with fresh toro. We are dedicated to serving the community in the heart of Long Island City, Astoria, and Woodside, offering a new insight to enjoy Sushi and Ramen in a different way.
